The date is set. The entire crew has their tickets secured, and you’ll be meeting up before the concert. Now, you want to see if one of your favorite Travis Scott deep cuts will be played at the show while you prepare the pregame playlist. You could check the Wikipedia of setlists aka setlist.fm as long as your city isn’t the first tour stop, but the website relies on user inputs, which aren’t always accurate. Plus, you’ll have to manually recreate the setlist if you want to listen to it before the concert.
Thanks to Apple Music, those days are gone. With their new Set Lists feature through Apple Music for Artists, the biggest names in music are providing a concert experience for fans right at home. Giving Apple Music users one exclusive advantage over Spotify (for now). Find out everything you need to know below.
The Set Lists feature is ready to roll
Artists can start creating new playlists through the Apple Music for Artists platform. It originally launched in August 2019 as a rival to the Spotify For Artists app (which launched in 2017) and is available on desktop and iOS. With the platform, artists can not only use features like monitoring “how many plays of a particular song in a given period have been generated by playlists,” but they can also see where and when one of their songs has been searched via Shazam.
The Set List feature allows the artists to share experiences from their concerts and upcoming dates directly with those who follow them. The feature also joined forces with the platform Bandsintown to create setlists for everything from one-night-only shows to tours across the world (Travis Scott created one for his Circus Maximus Tour). Once created, the playlists are automatically published on the artists’ official page on Apple Music, their artist profile on Shazam, and related event pages.
How can artists and fans utilize this feature?
All verified artists can access the Set List feature through the Apple Music for Artists platform. With Bandsintown and Apple Music joining forces, it is easier to find concerts in the area with the new features through the music or maps applications. The set list is created by either adding the tracks by searching them up or by pasting the Apple Music links.
With the artist having full control, the fans can listen to the entire setlist of a show from beginning to end with the artist’s official sequencing. So if you need to know what to expect on Gunna’s Wun of Dem Nights Tour, you check his setlist playlist and see if your favorite songs are on there ahead of time.
“This can be a fun way to announce a future tour, reach fans who couldn’t make the live experience, or reconnect with those that were at your show,” Apple said in their announcement about the update.
The setlist playlists can be found on an artist’s social media if they decide to post them on their official platforms. Artists can also hide or delete the playlists that they choose — don’t worry, though, the hidden playlists can still be played. On their official platform, the playlists will be displayed based on their popularity. Even if you are reminiscing on the It’s All A Blur Tour or getting ready for the PSYCHO Tour, you can access both to stream to your heart’s content.
With these new features, Apple Music is making it easier for artists to build their fanbase and for hip-hop heads to find their next favorite artist or keep up with their GOATs. Continuing to be a frontrunner in the music world, the platform is keeping the updates rolling.
