Considering he keeps trolling and fooling us with release dates, A$AP Rocky’s Don’t Be Dumb might have the funniest album name ever. But title aside, the road to its release has been “rocky”—and that’s putting it lightly. For nearly a year and a half, he’s been teasing the project, name-dropping potential features and producers, and giving the most mysterious answers possible regarding a release date. But now, we might finally have one. Maybe.
Way back in June 2024, Rocky announced he had an album on the way for August 30 of that year. It’s been bumped around a ton since then, and it now looks like January 16, 2026, is when it’ll see the light of day. A$AP Rocky officially confirmed the date and revealed the cover art with director Tim Burton—although that may not be all they have in store.
How we got here and everything we know about the album, below.
A$AP Rocky Confirms Release Date After Camp Flog Gnaw Hint
On November 23, 2025, Rocky performed at Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw—his annual music festival at the Dodgers Stadium in California. Considering his last album, Testing, dropped in 2018, every live appearance at this point is fueled with one question: Where is the album? Funny enough, though, Rocky jokingly announced just a few weeks before that “the album is never dropping,” and released merch that playfully backed that statement.
However, still on the merch and fashion side of things, Rocky’s fit for the Camp Flog Gnaw performance needed a closer check. Upon further inspection, fans peeped that the sleeve had numbers on it—01162026. Of course, this translates to January 16, 2026, and fans speculated that this might be when the album drops. No, for real this time!
But here’s the catch. Some fans who are quick to hit up Google or ChatGPT noticed that a certain “holiday” falls on January 16. “National Nothing Day,” which is just as the name implies—a holiday for nothing. That means this could all be another elaborate joke by Rocky.
About a month after Camp Flog Gnaw, though, Rocky dropped the official cover art for Don’t Be Dumb, in collaboration with Tim Burton ,and confirmed the speculated release date of January 16th, 2026. “NATIONAL NOTHING DAY -DONTBEDUMB,” he captioned the announcement post on IG. If the joke about National Nothing Day triggers you, you’re not alone. There’s a general sentiment of “I’ll believe it when it drops” attached to Rocky’s “updates” and rightfully so given the rollout’s history.
The announcement also confirmed the involvement of legendary director Tim Burton, known for films like Batman, Beetlejuice, and Edward Scissorhands. Back in August 2024, Rocky told Billboard that he had originally tried to get Burton to design the cover art for Don’t Be Dumb, but scheduling conflicts got in the way (clearly they worked it out). This was also when he first mentioned that Burton’s longtime collaborator, composer Danny Elfman, ended up scoring several tracks.
In a more recent interview with Vanity Fair, Rocky expanded on that process:
“Danny Elfman did my album with me, he scored a bunch of the songs… We had [the TV] on mute and were just making music to all of the old films—Pee-wee’s Playhouse and The Simpsons, all that.”
He also doubled down on his admiration for Burton:
“I’ve been inspired by him since I was a child. I think what he does with claymation and how he transcended into live-action movies—the parallels between them and how he seamlessly included everything from matte painting to German Expressionism—I think he’s a fucking genius.”
While Burton’s exact role in Don’t Be Dumb is still unclear, a music video collaboration wouldn’t be far-fetched. Burton isn’t someone who casually lends his name to any project—and the fact that he even entertained the idea of working with Rocky says a lot.
For years, Rocky has approached his visuals like films (“A$AP Forever,” “Praise The Lord“), pushing the boundaries of music videos with surreal aesthetics and top-tier cinematic direction. His edits and transitions alone will have you scratching your head, wondering how he even explained what he wanted to the director. If anyone could get Tim Burton to direct a music video, it’s him.
Every ‘Don’t Be Dumb’ Release Date (So Far)
The year-and-a-half gap between the June 2024 announcement and the possible January 2026 release date has been pure chaos. Announcements, delays, singles, interviews—sprinkle in some court cases—and you get the formula for Don’t Be Dumb’s conception so far. The first release date we mentioned, August 30, 2024, was delayed because of leaks and sample-clearing issues.
Though it was delayed to “fall 2024,” the season came with even less certainty that the album was ready. That November, pre-orders for the album started getting refunded, so fans knew the drop would likely be pushed till 2025.
Then, in January and February of 2025, Rocky was busy fighting in court regarding an alleged altercation with A$AP Relli. We won’t get into the details of that, but simply put, an album was the last thing on his mind when trying not to do a 20-year bid behind bars.
In an interview with GQ a few weeks later, Rocky assured fans that the album was being finished up.
During his Rolling Loud performance in March 2025, he teased even more new music from the project. This included “Your Honor,” a nasty beat-the-case victory track, just days after he was acquitted by a jury in court. Produced by Metro Boomin, Rocky stood behind a courtroom stand on stage and talked his shit. “I wear that Marni to court, your honor / Look like John Gotti in court, your honor.” Looking back, this probably would have been the best time for him to drop, as his court case (and fits) had been dominating headlines for weeks.
But even with the new previews and talk about the mixing, mastering, and polishing process, the album went months without any more definitive information. That said, little snippets and details continued to surface in various and unique ways.
October rolled around, and Rocky had a chance to speak more candidly about everything that has been going on and how it impacted the album—not only the sound, but his perspective on creating it and what it means.
Although it’s been a ridiculously long saga for his new project, it’s been 8 years, and it seems like he wants to do it when it feels right for him. And he wants to do some trolling along the way.
What Can Fans Expect From The Album?
While the project obviously hasn’t dropped yet, there has been no shortage of information about what it could be. Starting with the production, a lot of names have been rumored for the project:
- Tyler, the Creator
- Hit-Boy
- Metro Boomin
- The Alchemist
- Mike Dean
Additionally, Rocky confirmed that Danny Elfman, world-renowned composer known for Tim Burton films and other massive movies, handled a lot of the production elements as well.
Alongside the news of producers, he’s released multiple tracks since the announcement of the album. These may serve as singles, or they might not, but we’ll have to see when it drops:
- • HIGHJACK (Aug 2, 2024)
- • TAILOR SWIF (Aug 30, 2024)
- • Ruby Rosary ft. J. Cole (Sep 6, 2024)
- • pray4dagang ft. KayCyy (July 5, 2025)
All things considered, absolutely nothing about Rocky’s new project is set in stone. The album has shifted multiple times and he’s been through various situations while working on it. He did, however, allegedly play the album on vinyl in a restaurant in mid-November.
But even with all the signs pointing to its imminent release, if you think we’re just going to blindly accept the newly “teased” release date? Don’t be dumb.
