It’s already been an incredibly busy but successful year for Dallas rapper BigXthaPlug, who has been delivering again and again in the music world. The rising star is gracing the cover of Billboard’s latest Genre Now issue and has earned a well-deserved nomination for Best New Hip-Hop Artist at the 2025 iHeart Radio Music Awards.
His single “Change Me” became the unofficial anthem for the Philadelphia Eagles last season as they became Super Bowl champions. The rapper has a bunch of festival appearances lined up for the summer, including J. Cole’s Dreamville festival and Coachella.
As if that wasn’t enough, BigX just dropped a new music video and also teased the long-awaited release of a new country collab, a genre he’s been working to expand into for some time. With support from notable country artists like Shaboozey and Morgan Wallen and a clear passion for blending genres, BigXthaPlug is clearly not just making waves in hip-hop — he’s set to take over the country scene, too.
BigX is letting his feelings out
On March 27, BigX dropped the visuals for his track “Therapy Sessions” off his second studio album, TAKE CARE. The song, which has already amassed over 16 million streams on Spotify, serves as a preview ahead of his upcoming Coachella performances on April 13 and 20. He’s also gearing up to hit the road with Lil Baby on the WHAM World Tour this June.
In the video, BigX takes a moment to unwind and share his emotions. Directed by Jerry Morka, known for his work on BigX’s “Meet the 6ixers” video and Glorilla’s “TGIF,” the rapper opens up about his journey navigating newfound fame along with the personal struggles he’s faced, both past and present. Instead of in a therapist’s office, however, he bares it all to a bartender.
Driving down a long dirt road past plenty of pasture before finally ending up in a bar straight out of a western, it’s obvious that the rapper is feeling the country spirit. On top of that, if you listen closely to the beginning of the music video, you can hear the voice of country artist Bailey Zimmerman.
It’s time to step into his country bag
BigX’s highly anticipated collaboration with Bailey Zimmerman, “All the Way,” has been teased for weeks. BigX first previewed the track on Valentine’s Day, when he posted a snippet to celebrate the holiday and asked his followers when they thought he should officially drop it.
Despite a flood of fans insisting the song should be released immediately, it’s been noticeably absent—until now. Zimmerman took to his TikTok to announce the track’s official drop on April 4th, much to the delight of eager fans. This will be another country collab under BigX’s belt, with the deluxe version of TAKE CARE featuring the song “Holy Ground” with country genre-blender Jessie Murph. He also dropped “Drink Don’t Need No Mix” with country star Shaboozey last July.
BigX has hinted that even more country music is on the horizon. In a December interview with Complex, he revealed plans for a full country EP, featuring artists like Shaboozey, Morgan Wallen, Post Malone, Luke Combs, and Jelly Roll. He also mentioned a “South Mix” EP with artists like Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla, and NLE Choppa, though it’s still unclear which project will drop first.
On top of his growing list of achievements, BigX is being seen as the future of both hip-hop and country music—a role that he is honored to step into.
“It’s a blessing to know that what I’m doing is being noticed,” he said at the 2025 iHeart Radio Music Awards. “We’ve already stamped what we wanted to do with hip-hop. We can always come back to that later. But I’m trying to take over everything, you know? So why not step into country, where I’ve got so much support from people like my brother Shaboozey, Morgan Wallen, Post Malone…We’ve been working already, so let’s put it into a project and see what we can do with it.”
