The federal trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs is fully underway—and if you’ve even glanced at your timeline, you’ve seen the headlines. Some details are difficult to stomach, even as allegations. Others—like inflatable pools of baby oil and Obama-shaped ecstasy pills—are just surreal.

Combs is facing five felony charges, including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. If convicted, he could face life in prison.

Week one of the trial centered on testimony from Cassie Ventura, Combs’ longtime ex-girlfriend, whose 2023 civil suit against him set off the first domino in what’s become a full-blown legal reckoning. On the stand, she described their relationship as one marked by coercion, physical abuse, and orchestrated sex acts known as “Freak Offs.”

Now, Kid Cudi is expected to take the stand later this week—possibly as early as Thursday. Prosecutors confirmed his upcoming testimony in court on Monday, May 20.

What Kid Cudi Could Be Asked About

Cudi dated Ventura in 2011 while she was on a break with Combs. Ventura testified that Combs found out by looking through her phone during a “Freak Off” she still felt forced to participate in, calling it “a job.” After discovering her relationship with Cudi, Combs allegedly flew into a rage, lunged at her with a wine opener, and later threatened to blow up Cudi’s car.

In 2012, Cudi’s Porsche was destroyed by an explosive device in his driveway. Combs was never charged, but Ventura recalled a tense meeting between the three of them at Soho House shortly afterward. When Cudi asked Combs what happened to his car, Combs reportedly replied, “What car?”

Combs’ indictment accuses him of “acts of violence [including] arson.” It’s unclear if that’s referring to the alleged incident with Cudi, but his testimony this week may reveal more.

The relationship between Ventura and Cudi ended soon after. “There was too much danger,” she told the court. “Too much uncertainty if we kept seeing each other.”

Her mother, Regina Ventura, also testified that around 2011 or 2012, Combs called her demanding $20,000 to “recoup” some of what he had spent on her daughter. She claims his anger about her daughter’s relationship with Cudi prompted the request.

The prosecution also questioned Regina about an email she received from Ventura in December 2011 detailing more of Combs’ threats. Regina told the court that the email said, “The threats that have been made towards me by Sean ‘Puffy’ Combs are that are that he is going to release 2 explicit sex tapes of me. One on Christmas Day, maybe before or right after and another one some time soon after that. He has also said that he will be having someone hurt me and Scott Mescudi physically (he made a point that it wouldn’t be by his hands, he actually said he’d be out of the country when it happened).” Scott Mescudi is Cudi’s legal name.

When Cudi takes the stand, prosecutors will likely use his testimony to reinforce claims of intimidation, violence, and Diddy’s alleged pattern of retaliation toward anyone who threatened his control.
