Is GTA 6 Still Coming This Year? The Updates You Need to Know

From a potential DJ Khaled station to pre-orders starting across the world, we broke down all the recent news.

Grab some snacks, put on your seatbelt, and get ready to hit some virtual grandmas because Grand Theft Auto 6 is coming — hopefully before we become old and gray. We’ve been waiting almost twelve years, and it’s been a whirlwind of rumors, vague updates, and fan theories that make Game of Thrones look like a children’s TV show.

From DJ Khaled’s rumored new radio station (because nothing says “chaos” like DJ Khaled yelling at you as you drive) to various stores opening pre-orders for the pre-order, the journey to have the game in our hands has been a long one.

The release date is allegedly still on track for this fall, the soundtrack is gearing up to be a major hit (or major miss), and fans are grabbing onto any theory they can to keep their anxieties about a delay at bay. We gathered up all of the biggest and most recent updates you need to know as a GTA 6 fan, so you can stop searching through the subreddits.

Is GTA 6 still coming out in 2025?

Doubts about the highly anticipated video game still dropping this year started swirling in early 2024, all thanks to Rockstar Games demanding employees return to the office five days a week. To add fuel to the fire, a former Rockstar developer dropped a bombshell on why the release date was still as uncertain as your chances of winning the Mega Millions lottery.

In a post from September 2024, Obbe Vermeij claimed that the company wouldn’t be able to confirm whether they’d hit their release date until May 2025, which is almost halfway through the year. Sure, they claimed to have zero insider info, but fans, already on the edge of their seats (and probably their last nerve), weren’t exactly thrilled.

Fear not, dear gamers. Take-Two Interactive (who owns Rockstar Games) stepped in and confirmed that the game is still on track for a fall release.

Take-Two’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, told Variety on February 6 that they “announced a pretty narrow window. So I think our view is that right now, that’s fine…And then when it’s appropriate, of course, Rockstar is going to have more to say.”

With the dread of waiting another year to steal luxury cars and rob banks finally put to rest, gamers now eagerly await that sweet, sweet official footage in a new trailer.

When is the second GTA 6 trailer coming out?

The first trailer for GTA 6 was given to fans as a surprise Christmas present in December 2023, and since then…it’s been crickets. But where there’s silence, there are always theories on the horizon.

The X account GameRollGTA shared online their theory that Borderlands 4 might give details on when exactly new content is dropping. Owned by 2K Games (the sister company to Rockstar and also owned by Take-Two), the social media account stated that “Borderlands 4 recently got its second trailer, and it launches in 7 months. If GTA 6 was to follow this same pattern, then we can expect Rockstar to drop Trailer 2 towards the end of March.”

Rockstar still hasn’t confirmed that this is their official plan, but gamers online are thinking that the footage will drop around or during May.

Which consoles will GTA 6 be on?

After nearly twelve years of anticipation, all anyone really wants is to finally play the game they’ve been obsessively following for ages. And guess what? It’s been confirmed that GTA 6 will be available on “PlayStation® 5 computer entertainment systems” and “Xbox Series X|S games and entertainment systems,” according to Take-Two’s December 2023 press release.

However, it isn’t confirmed if the game will be one of the PS5 Pro’s enhanced games. According to a tech expert, “It likely won’t run at 60fps on the console, even if it has ‘higher quality visuals.’” At this point, we got to take what we can get.

For those of us still holding onto our Xbox Ones, PS4s, or beloved PCs that get a little too much love during those 2 AM gaming sessions — tough luck. It hasn’t been confirmed for those platforms yet. Here’s a little present from Rockstar Games, though: on March 4, GTA 5 will get a free PC upgrade. It’s like a consolation prize for waiting over a decade for GTA 6.

What artists are on the GTA 6 soundtrack?

Music has always been the beating heart of the GTA series, bringing together everyone from K. Dot to Future on the same platform. With such a massive gap between the last game and this one, fans are on edge, wondering how Rockstar will top their previous soundtracks.

Recent rumors have fans buzzing with excitement about potential artists for the new game. Among the rumored names is DJ Khaled, who apparently now has his own radio station in the upcoming game, T-Pain, and DJ Tokimonsta. Whether Khaled’s station is a gift or not depends on your taste, but hey, it’s definitely…something.

The plot is getting even thicker with the involvement of CircoLoco Records, a partnership between the legendary DC10 club in Ibiza and Rockstar Games. CircoLoco is rumored to be a major player in GTA 6’s soundtrack, thanks to Rockstar reposting a teaser about upcoming music. This has sent the internet into full speculation mode, with GTA 6 commentator GTAVI_Countdown dropping their own theories.

While not everyone agrees 100% with their POV on CircoLoco Records, music is still going to play a very big role in whatever GTA 6  has been cooking all this time—and they’re ready to pre-order.

When can you pre-order GTA 6?

Sorry, U.S. fans, but over in Malaysia, it looks like fans have already started pre-ordering physical copies of GTA 6. Yep, you read that right—they’re getting the jump on us before the game even hits shelves. According to X user GTAVI_Countdown, Malaysian stores are letting players “pre-order the pre-order” for just $3 USD—a classic industry move, much like the “early deposit” tactics we’ve seen before, especially by places like GameStop. It’s like reserving your spot in line… for a line.

Once GTA 6 actually drops, get ready for what’s probably going to feel like an old-school Black Friday sale, but with fewer TVs and more people yelling about wanting their hands on that disc. If you’re one of those folks who can’t wait to start hijacking cars and causing chaos, you might want to start scouting pre-order options near you—because it’s about to get really competitive out there. Keep your eyes peeled because those physical copies are going to fly off the shelves faster than you can say “GTA.”
