Lil Baby Opens Up About Young Thug, Kai Cenat, and Playboi Carti

The rapper broke down how he feels about his friends in the game — and critics.

Fresh off another No. 1 album with WHAM, Lil Baby sat down with Complex to discuss what’s next. Despite navigating a “rough patch,” the rapper continues to evolve, releasing music that reflects his journey. With Dominique on the horizon—an album he describes as having a more “grown” sound—fans are also eager for updates on his relationships with key figures in the industry.

Rumors are already swirling about a potential collaborative tape from Young Thug, Future, and Lil Baby. Meanwhile, he teased involvement in Playboi Carti’s I AM MUSIC and didn’t shy away from addressing Kai Cenat’s unfiltered review of his latest project.

Lil Baby lets it all out

On a positive note, Baby is thrilled to see Young Thug finally back home.

“It feels amazing. That was a big part of what I was going through these past two years, too. Even though it happened to Thug, I feel like it could have happened to me. So seeing that shit every day and seeing how they’re trying to do you and how they’re trying to use the craft to build [a case against us] and take us [from] trying to help n*** from our neighborhood or people that we grew up with … That s*** is really mind-boggling,” the rapper said.

Since Thug’s return, the two have wasted no time getting back to work. “We’ve been in the studio together almost every day. We got tons of songs,” Baby revealed. Hopefully, some of those unreleased tracks make it onto the rumored collaborative tape with Future.

Speaking of new music, you can’t think of ATL without thinking of Carti—and a collaboration with Baby would go crazy. While Baby admitted they’d be “too turnt together” for a joint track on Dominique, he left the door open for a potential feature on I AM MUSIC.

“[Playboi] Carti is my man. I’ve known Carti for a long time. I always knew him, but we just never really did music [together] because most of the people who I’ve known for awhile, it don’t be weird making music [together], but I don’t be pressed if they don’t be pressed. It is one of those things where it could happen whenever we want it to happen….I feel like I’m already on I Am Music, just being from Atlanta. Everybody plays a part in it. Just everybody’s albums, you know what I’m saying? We all feed off each other in certain ways,” he said.

Even though the buzz is building for Baby’s future projects, people online still focus on whether WHAM delivered. One of the album’s most public reviewers was Kai Cenat, who wasn’t feeling the album, to say the least.

Regardless of what Cenat and other streamers had to say about WHAM, Baby isn’t stressed over their opinions.

“…People like Kai Cenat, I feel like they’re younger. They won’t really understand how I’m coming. You have to be a little older to really get it,” he said.

Commenting on whether there’s a specific age demographic for the project, the rapper added on by stating, “…I never used to think that there was any age demographic [that was] good to rate music unless you’re a music person. If it was a music person, then I’d probably be more interested. But the streamers and people who do reviews, that’s just their personal opinion. They know nothing about music for real.” Yikes.

Continuing to advance as one of the biggest rappers in the game right now, Baby is focusing on the opinions that truly matter to him and his career. He still has plenty of support from rap fans worldwide.
