This year, Lil Yachty has crashed out more times than a Fast & Furious movie. He annihilated one of his former Concrete Boys members, Karrahboo, and even his podcast host Mitch, during a viral IG Live rant back in August. He’s shared hot takes that can only be explained as deeply unserious, like saying Atlanta had more unique fashion than New York and “hip-hop is in a terrible place,” not too long before endorsing ian.
Recently, at ComplexCon, Lil Boat made the Internet cringe once again with his public verbal assault of “collab marketing educator” Bimma Williams for his criticisms of Yachty’s new Nike Air Force Ones and cultural contributions.
Lil Yachty crashes out at ComplexCon
On November 13, Williams posted his thoughts on Lil Yachty’s new Nike collab and went after not just the shoe but the rapper’s hip-hop and sneaker knowledge.
“Did Lil Yachty’s Air Force 1 completely miss the boat … If this year was your first time ever listening to Jay-Z’s Reasonable Doubt and the Black album, can you really claim to be Hip-Hop’s biggest sneakerhead? I mean, fam probably thinks Wu-Tang is a hot sauce,” Williams said in his review.
Lil Boat didn’t respond to Williams’ statements online. However, once he was on stage for ComplexCon’s “DJ Clark Kent Sneaker of The Year” panel on November 17, he let the choppa sing. He sat on the panel along with P.J. Tucker, Joe La Puma, Matt Welty, and Brendan Dunne.
“…If I want to make an Air Force and I want it to be white and blue—if you don’t like it, that’s cool, but the way he tried to make it seem as if like ‘this n**** can’t make a shoe because he doesn’t respect the culture.’ What the fuck are you talking about n****? I’ve been into this sneaker shit for 15 years, when I had five cents to my name. I can tell you about any kind of shoe. What are you talking about? You clearly don’t know my history on sneakers and how involved I am in this shit,” Yachty yelled towards the confused audience.
He also accused Williams of dick-sucking (in great detail) way too many times for the average person. The rapper ended his rant by telling Williams he would “be outside” if he wanted to do something about what he said.
Instead of throwing up his ones, Williams responded to Yachty’s crash out on November 19 via Instagram.
“I was trying to strike a chord of creativity, but I guess I struck a nerve. Because where I am from, we say a hit dog hollers. There’s a difference between hate and a critique. The latter is a gift. And in return, you tried to reduce me to a hater, provoked by Joe La Instigator” Williams said (along with listing his stats and accomplishments backing up his professional opinion).
Despite his public rage, Lil Boat joined Williams on Instagram Live on November 19 to call a truce, conveniently timed after all the public outrage towards Yachty’s comments set in.
“Looking back at myself, I’m just like ‘Ugh, that was corny.’ To another Black man, I realized that wasn’t me … But I think it came from a place of passion … I spent my entire life dreaming about Nike. I think it was just a place of passion but that still has no right,” Yachty said in his apology.
There were some online that defended the rapper for his onstage reaction towards Williams’ critiques of the shoe.
Nevertheless, 2024 has become the year of crashouts for Yachty, and those online are tired of seeing them.
“Bimma is better than me I guess, but those are not ‘reactions coming from passion’ that’s straight-up lack of maturity and disrespect. Made him look insecure and corny and the community wasn’t with it. He had no other option than to apologize,” IG user mt_mcmxciii said in the comments.
