2024: The Year Playboi Carti Did Not Drop ‘I AM MUSIC’

Yes, Carti fans are screaming, crying and protesting online.

Trust in Playboi Carti is at an all-time low, but it wasn’t always like this. I remember 2017 vividly at the height of “Magnolia,” milly rocking with lots of new Carti music to enjoy. Fast forward to Christmas Day 2020, and Carti delivered Whole Lotta Red, a gift of good news in an otherwise bizarre year. It was like unwrapping something you didn’t even know you needed—a moment of joy amidst the madness.

At the beginning of 2024, Carti promised it would be the year he released I AM MUSIC. However, being a Carti fan is like being in an on-again, off-again relationship. For months, Carti dangled singles, snippets, and performances. Fans clung to hints of Ye’s involvement and the Rolling Loud Miami preview, hoping they were a sign of things to come.

Yet, everything turned out to be as empty as the “this time will be different” promises of a volatile relationship. 2024 came and went, and Carti loyalists found themselves staring at empty stockings, their wishes unfulfilled.

Online, fans are venting their disappointment and have even started a petition to ban Carti from streaming services, which sits at 8,000 signatures at the time of writing. The petition reads, “We demand accountability. This petition calls for Playboi Carti to be banned from all music platforms until he honors his promises and demonstrates a genuine commitment to his fanbase. If artists cannot uphold the trust of their listeners, they should not be allowed to profit off their loyalty.”

Below are fans’ reactions to 2024 being the year of no I AM MUSIC.
