Lil Tecca

Lil Tecca takes the crown in this month’s Power Rankings, fueled by the breakout success of his fifth studio album, DOPAMINE. The project — which dropped on June 13th and features just one guest appearance (salute to Ken Carson) — earned Tecca his highest Billboard 200 debut yet, landing at number three. It also topped Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, with 11 of its 17 tracks charting on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. On top of it all, DOPAMINE earned him the biggest album debut of his career with 17.8 million streams, out-performing the latest projects from Lil Wayne and Don Toliver. If the Queens native keeps this up, it’s sure to be a Tecca summer.

Young Thug

Young Thug rockets up this month’s Power Rankings with a full-court press of performances, promo stunts, and new music teases that have fans and skeptics alike tuned in. His first public concert since jail — a headlining set at Summer Smash on June 22 — reminded everyone why he’s still one of rap’s most magnetic live performers. He had plenty of surprises as well with appearances from T.I., Travis Scott, and Ken Carson (who played an unreleased song with Thug).

While the project hasn’t dropped (yet), studio pics and social media teases suggest it’s coming any day now. In the meantime, anticipation is doing the heavy lifting — and for Thug, that might be the point. If you felt the earth shift this month, blame it on Slime.

Pusha T

Pusha T ran in this month swinging — mainly on Travis Scott. At the start of the month, it was confirmed that the Clipse duo officially parted ways with Def Jam, leaving behind apparently “an insane amount of money” to keep a K. Dot verse and maintain full creative control over their upcoming album, Let God Sort ‘Em Out. However, things got crazier from there when Clipse dropped the full track and visuals for “So Be It” on June 17, with Pusha revealing that he is dissing La Flame on the song and even calling him “a whore.” He tripled down on his hatred with numerous interviews like with The NYT Popcast. While Scott allegedly plans to drop JACKCBOYS 2 the same day as Clipse, Pusha still has the upper hand. With the tracklist dropping on June 30th and confirmed features including Tyler, the Creator, and Pharrell, Clipse might have another classic on their hands.

Lil Wayne

Despite the mixed reviews, Tha Carter VI, released on June 6th, still held its ground. The long-awaited album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 and claimed the top spot on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, securing his 11th number one album on the chart. On June 10, Weezy kicked off the album’s tour at Madison Square Garden with his first performance there as a solo act — and featured special guests like LL Cool J. Then came even more collabs: a surprise track with Future and Lil Baby single dropped on June 12. Call it a victory lap, or just another Tuesday for the GOAT. Either way, Carter VI season is in full effect whether you like it or not.

Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar was already making headlines when Pusha T revealed that the Compton MC’s “Chains & Whips” verse was the final straw in his decision to leave Def Jam However, he still had plenty more accolades to go thanks to the GNX Tour with SZA. They officially have the highest grossing co-headling tour with $256.4 million dollars generated and over a million in ticket sales. The party is set to continue with Lamar announcing Mexico and South American dates (sans SZA but with rap duo Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso) starting in September. As if he isn’t already in GOAT status, there’s even going to be a course on his music and legacy starting this fall at Temple University. It seems like every day there’s a new accomplishment to add to the resume of Carti’s (less) evil twin.

Don Toliver

After first teasing the single on his birthday (June 12), Toliver officially dropped the Mustard-produced track “FWU (Gemini SZN)” on June 26 (along with visuals). On June 20, he hit the Summer Smash stage alongside co-headliner Yeat, performing a mix of unreleased collabs and clever mashups — including rapping “No Idea” over Yeat’s “Out the Way.” This was their first performance together since announcing in March that they were working on a joint album together in March. Sure, he might have gotten caught up in the back-and-forth with Ken Carson — but with JACKBOYS 2 definitely OTW, there’s bigger things for the H-Town native to focus on right now.

Yeat

As previously stated, Yeat turned up Summer Smash with Don Toliver to preview new music and remixes of his other tracks. However, he also made moves on his own. He was announced on June 13th as one of the headliners of this year’s ComplexCon in October — along with some special guests. He is back in album mode, with him posting on social media that he’s working with producer BNYX in Saint Tropez. He also allegedly brought in $32 million in shows and deals so far this year. We’re only halfway through the year, so there is plenty more from Yeat to come.

Pi'erre Bourne

On June 6, the producer and rapper announced that he would be dropping his fourth studio album, Made in Paris, this month along with the lead single “Blocs.” The second single, “Pop,” dropped a week after the announcement before the full project finally dropped on June 27. With seventeen tracks and only one feature (from Young Nudy), the album dropped with solid reviews from fans who had been waiting since the project was first teased back in 2021. Vinyls for the project officially were released on June 28, and hopefully there are more visuals or a tour to come.

Gunna

Gunna continues to make waves in the rap game — fittingly, with his latest single titled “Won’t Stop,” released on June 13. On June 25, the rapper was announced by the publication UPROXX’s as the first UPROXX Visionary, with an eye-opening interview to match. Yes, the ATL native talked about wanting to sign an AI artist since “you can’t beat em.” However, he also talked about the work and vision behind his upcoming sixth studio album (which will be his last under YSL Records). As showcased in his live performance of the new single — which dropped the same day as the interview — Gunna looks poised to climb back to the top of the rap game.

Playboi Carti

Carti paid tribute to Lil Wayne at this year’s BET Awards, rocking BAPE and an iced-out lollipop for one of the most talked-about moments of the month. He has been on the move with The Weeknd on After Hours Til Dawn Tour, bringing out special guests like Travis Scott and his Opium signee Ken Carson in L.A. on June 25. It seems like the afterparty is where everything is really popping off, with DJ Swamp Izzo previewing a Drake x Carti collab after the show the same day (which we may or may not get). Days later at another L.A. afterparty, fans even got a taste of what we might hear on BABY BOI. The tour is still going on until September — but it looks like the vamp rapper is already planning his moves for when he hops off the bus.
