Throughout his career, Ye has had plenty of controversial moments. He took the shine from Taylor Swift and tried to give his flowers to Beyoncé at the 2009 MTV VMAS. He then depicted Swift, along with numerous other celebrities, like ex-wife Kim Kardashian, in bed together in the 2016 “Famous” music video. He wore “White Lives Matter” shirts with Candace Owens, and his antisemitic comments caused Adidas to cut ties with him back in 2022. Now, Ye has landed himself back in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.
Breaking down the nightmare deposition
Ye was arguing with attorney Michael Popok via Zoom in a sneak preview clip of an upcoming A&E show called Interrogation Raw: Celebrity Under Oath (premiering on December 26).
The deposition dealt with a lawsuit the rapper was facing from the company MyChannel, Inc., which said that the partnership offer from Ye was just a way for him to “fuel his Yeezy brand and steal confidential tech to make millions on Sunday Service.” They asked for over $20 million in damages, but it was reported later that the two parties reached a dismissal agreement.
Before everything was back on good terms, though, Ye had to face the music. Initially, the rapper was wearing a hat while looking down at something. When asked if he was also using his phone during the meeting, he confirmed that he was “due to my mental geniusness, in order to focus on this bullshit, I need to be on a phone.”
The laughs don’t stop there. After turning his phone off, Ye substituted the device for a face covering. When asked why he wore this mask, the rapper simply responded, “You don’t have the right to see my face,” suggesting it was “perhaps” his intention to wear it the entire time.
It only gets more chaotic from here.
When asked where he was located, Ye said, “I’m not gonna tell you! You’re never going to see me again … Are you stupid? I am not going to tell you all the things I don’t have the time to be talking about. I got a chair in the room. You are talking to the richest Black person in the history of America.”
Forever social media troll 50 Cent called the footage “the best s*** I have seen.” However, others online are calling Ye an “overgrown performative spoiled crybaby.” Regardless of how you feel about it, the rapper has proven time and time again that he is going to speak his mind, for better or worse.
