A bit-size showcase of the hottest records to grace the industry this month.
DAMN HOMIE – Yvngxchris (ft. Lil Yatchy)
17-year-old rap rookie Yvngxchris stunned audiences with this two-minute trap anthem. Teaming up with Lil Yatchy, the two deliver dynamic verses with bravado over a bass-heavy beat that features a distinct piano key. Produced by DeCarlo & BLWYRMND, “DAMN HOMIE” is a May must listen.
Churchill Downs – Jack Harlow (ft. Drake)
Harlow puts his best foot forward on this track off his recent album, Come Home The Kids Miss You. Canadian superstar Drake lends his talents to the track, floating on the soft instrumental with ease. However, don’t let the song’s laid-back tone fool you, the bars from both artists are as clever and conceited as ever. Produced by a myriad of producers including Boi-1da, “Churchill Downs” is one of the most popular tracks to release this month with over 26 million streams on Spotify alone.
Love You Better – Future
Slow, romantic, and surprisingly introspective, Future recounts the experience of dealing with a partner that has fallen out of love with him on “LOVE YOU BETTER.” Future pairs flawless vocals to the track’s simplistic beat, creating an easy to listen to R&B experience. Perfect for any chill playlist, this one is a necessary listen for fans of modern RnB.
Rich Spirit – Kendrick Lamar
One of our favorite tracks from Kendrick’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, “Rich Spirit” is a song that shows the rapper’s duality. Kendrick toils with the conflicting desires to both attain material wealth and grow spiritually throughout the track. Coupled with the song’s somber tone, the record is rhythm and poetry. A strong recommendation for fans of conscious and lyrical hip-hop.
Stimulate – Eminem
Finally officially released on streaming platforms as a track on Eminem’s The Eminem Show (Expanded Edition) 20 years after being recorded, “Stimulate” is an Eminem deep cut straight from 2002. The Detroit rap icon uses the track to discuss the relationship between him and his audience, and subsequently the effect he has on them. The song is full of the Slim Shady swagger that made the original album go 7X Platinum two decades ago. An absolute essential listen for any real Eminem fan.
Borrow – KayCyy
Showing off his versatility, KayCyy brings a whole new sound to his latest single “Borrow.” The artist’s latest effort is a short, but fun record with an upbeat tone. Featuring Travis Scott-like adlibs and a flow reminiscent of Playboi Carti, this track is an early summer scorcher worthy of a spot in your playlist this month.
Do Not Disturb – Vory (ft. NAV & BLEU)
The second promotion single for Vory’s newest album Lost Souls features a hypnotic guitar-heavy instrumental with a relaxed vibe. Vory enlists NAV and BLEU (formerly known as Yung Bleu) who both spit clean verses that compliment the song’s pop-influenced sound perfectly.
The Bottom – OT The Real (ft. Merkules)
Old school hip-hop for a modern audience, OT the Real and Merkules combine their powers on this standout track from OT’s newest album Maxed Out. Produced by Statik Selektah, the song is a tale of incarceration, narcotics, and street politics told through two captivating verses. The hook is simple and reminiscent of the short repetitive chorus’ of the ’90s and early 2000s. This one is a great listen for fans of ’90s hip-hop.
