Variety reported today that Drake has withdrawn both of his Grammy nominations. Drake was nominated for Best Rap Album for “Certified Lover Boy” and Best Rap Performance for “Way 2 Sexy,” which a rep for the Recording Academy confirmed are no longer in the running after the Grammys honored Drake’s request.
Typically, when an artist does not want his or her music to be considered, the label does not submit anything for consideration in the first place, according to Variety. Therefore, it may be unprecedented for an artist to pull their music this late in the game. The Grammy website, which recently featured their nominations, will have to be updated to accommodate the changes. Other changes may be necessary as well.
It is unclear exactly why Drake made this decision though he has said publicly that he is not a fan of such accolades, according to TMZ. Regardless, he is no stranger to Grammy nominations and wins, having racked up many through the years.
Drake and his team have not commented on the action publicly.
