As the music world awaits the release of Kanye West’s 10th studio album Donda, Kanye has been hosting “listening events,” concerts of sorts that feature the new album in its current form and Mr. West himself, the solo maestro at the center of it all. The events have been a major success in the context of generating major anticipation and hype surrounding the upcoming album with the two Atlanta shows breaking Apple Music’s record twice for the most watched live-streamed events ever and one event selling over $7 million in on-site merchandise.
Before the Atlanta appearances, there was first a free listening party for a select group of VIP invitees in Las Vegas on July 17, 2021. Five days later (July 22) Kanye sold out the first of two public events at Mercedes Benz stadium in Atlanta with the expected release date the following day. When the album did not arrive, West moved on to host a second event in the same location on August 5. Again, the album scheduled for release the next day did not materialize.
Today, All Rap News reported that West is planning another event at Soldier’s Field in Chicago, and Kanye has confirmed it on Instagram. The rumor began when Dazed reported a week ago that rapper and Donda collaborator KayCyy revealed in a now deleted tweet, “We’re moving to a new stadium,” as Ye was at the time living in Atlanta’s Mercedes Benz stadium. But the rumor gained more traction today with the above mentioned All Rap News story which further revealed that a fan who works security at Chicago’s Soldier Field is claiming that there will be another listening event on Thursday, August 26 in that location.
The fan was basing his projection on a Soldier Field staffing app listing for a “major concert event” with a 4 p.m. starting time. “I’m very confident that it’s for Kanye’s listening party,” the fan said in a tweet. Then today at noon EST, Kanye confirmed the rumor on Instagram with a post that reads, “Donda Soldier Field 8 26 21.”
