Months after his Jack Harlow-featuring “Industry Baby” hit took over airwaves and the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, Lil Nas X has announced a release date for his highly anticipated debut album.
In a string of tweets Tuesday (September 1), Lil Nas X announced the September 17th release date for Montero and shared his inspiration behind the cover art for the upcoming project with his fans.
“‘MONTERO’ THE DEBUT ALBUM OUT SEP. 17. 2021,” Lil Nas X wrote in part in one tweet.
“INSPIRATION BEHIND ‘MONTERO’ ALBUM ART: ARTISTS: John Stephens ART: (Genesis II) Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work,” he said.
Lil Nas X was caught up in a firestorm of backlash earlier this year in July when he collaborated with a creative brand on a limited edition run of Nike Air Maxes which incorporated his blood in the design and were pegged with the infamous “Satan shoes,” moniker before a Nike lawsuit crushed the distribution.
“Now that Tony Hawk has released skateboards with his blood painted on them, and there was no public outrage, are y’all ready to admit y’all were never actually upset over the blood in the shoes? and maybe u were made for some other reason?” Lil Nas X wrote on Twitter August 25th.
In a bizarre twist of events, Lil Nas X actually connected with Tony Hawk, who responded with a jab of his own utilizing the “Nah he tweaking” one-liner to summarize their ink up.
