August EDITION

We’re back with another edition of RapTV’s Power Rankings – we’re finally getting a few of the most anticipated albums of the year with Kanye and Drake both dropping. 

This month also gave us the return of Kendrick Lamar with a new feature and a few surprise album drops from legends and fan favourites alike. August shaped up to be a hot end to the summer and heading into fall it looks like there’s going to be a lot more to come.

After breaking the 2021 record for being the most streamed album and artist in a day, Kanye is continuing to break records with every step he takes. Ye also just received the accolade for having the highest amount of #1’s in history on Apple Music, over 130 countries in total.

Drake is a marketing genius and every move he takes reflects that. He has been very calculated with his voice as of recently, and as we approach the release of Certified Lover Boy (slated for September 3rd) the hype is at an all time high. Using his verse on Trippie Redd’s ‘Betrayal’ to further ignite his beef with Kanye, Drake continues to garner mainstream attention.

Trippie Redd

Following the release of his fifth studio album, ‘Trip At Knight’, Trippie Redd has continued to stay consistent throughout his work on features and over the top live performances. Trip At Knight sold over 70,000 units in the first week so it is evident that he will continue making waves.

The Kid Laroi has just gone on a very impactful run for his career after he just maintained the #1 single for an entire month with ‘Stay’. After moving 80,000 units in his first week of his album’s release, the hype continues to be real for The Kid Laroi as we watch him continue to flourish.

Baby Keem has managed to work with Travis Scott, Kanye West, and Kendrick Lamar, all in a very short period of time. As we approach the release of his next studio album, and after the success of his record with Kendrick, it is obvious that Baby Keem is here to stay.

Following the success of SoulFly Deluxe, Rod Wave is continuing to be an unmoving force on the charts. He is approaching rockstar levels of mainstream appeal as he ranked fourth in sales just below Lorde, Trippie Redd and Olivia Rodrigo.

To be in the game for 30+ years and to still move over 55,000 units upon your release is something only a legend can do. Nas has maintained his name in this modern age of rap by staying authentic to his sound and staying versatile as the sound continues to evolve.

Isaiah Rashad landed the #1 album in the country upon the release of ‘The House is Burning’ after a 5 year hiatus from the rap game. By building an almost overwhelming amount of hype from his fan base, he also landed his first top 10 album with his most recent work.

Fivio Foreign was just featured on Kanye West’s Donda multiple times and had individuals all over the internet making the claim that he had the best feature on the album. Fivio also revealed that his next album will be executive produced by none other than Kanye West.

Anytime Kendrick Lamar is active, the game is in a frenzy, it is not likely that we will see Kendrick being this low on the Power Rankings as he continues to debut the rollout for his upcoming album. His feature on ‘Family Ties’ with Baby Keem was very well received and undoubtedly has resulted in all eyes being on him.
