Is Enrique Iglesias Gay?

Enrique Miguel Iglesias Preysler was born on May 8, 1975, in Madrid, Spain. He was the youngest of three children born to popular Spanish singer Julio Iglesias. Due to security concerns in Spain, Enrique was sent to Miami to live with his father. Due to Enrique’s father being famous, he traveled a lot leaving Enrique in the care of his nanny, Elvira Olivares. Enrique later dedicated his first album to her.

Straight into the Music

As a teenager, Enrique decided to follow in his father’s footsteps. He performed at local restaurants with groups of friends but kept it a secret from his parents. He also kept the fact that he was auditioning for a part in the school play “Hello Dolly” a secret as well. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at The University of Miami to major in business but dropped out after a year because the music was more important to him.  Enrique didn’t want his parents to know that he was pursuing music and didn’t want his father’s fame to help him either. He wanted to become famous on his own without his father's name associated with him. His nanny was really the only person he told about his dream and she gave him money to help get his music career off the ground. In 1995, he released a self-titled debut album and it proved to be a huge success.  “Enrique Iglesias” tracklist:

So...is he gay?

Sorry guys, but Enrique is not gay. He’s been in a relationship with Russian tennis star Anna Kournikova since 2001.  Anna and Enrique are considered Hollywood’s most secretive couple. They went public with their relationship in 2002 and have been under the radar since then. In fact, if you didn’t know them personally or keep up with them online, you wouldn’t even know that these two are still together...or that they have a family!  The two met in 2001 when Anna appeared in a music video for “Escape” with Enrique. He immediately had an attraction to her. In 2007, Enrique made a joke that he and Anna had secretly married and divorced. Later, a rep of Enrique’s said that he was just kidding. It was a joke and the couple was doing great.  In an interview with Anna in 2011, she admitted that marriage is not important to her because she and Enrique are in a happy relationship and that’s really all that matters. In an interview with Enrique in 2012, he echoed Anna in saying that marriage isn’t important as long as the relationship was great. They both wanted kids and don’t think that a piece of paper proves anything.  The two have not been without their struggles and in an interview with Enrique in 2014, he admitted that he and Anna had been together for nearly 14 years and his famous father had yet to meet his partner. He claimed there are no hard feelings between them. They are just all so busy, it hasn’t worked out yet.  Somehow, they were about to keep Anna’s first pregnancy a secret for 9 months, and in December 2017, the couple welcomed twins Nicholas and Lucy. In January of this year, the couple welcomed daughter Mary to the family in secret. Anna and Enrique both say it’s not hard to keep your private life out of the media. You just don’t post about it.

Okay. Where was the confusion?

During a concert, Enrique’s manager dared him to kiss a male fan. Enrique says he’s not homophobic at all so he went along with it. Unfortunately, the innocent joke went a little far and for a while, fans and the media insisted Enrique was gay. Enrique has always had a thing for kissing fans and luckily, Anna is okay with it. She knows he’s not stepping out on her and he’s coming home at the end of the day. Maybe it’s just a Latin thing?

Interesting Facts

  1. In 2003, Enrique had his signature mole removed because of possible skin cancer concerns.
  2. Whitney Houston and Enrique recorded a song together without ever meeting.
  3. “Bailando” was almost never recorded.
  4. He still gets nervous before performing.
Anna retired from tennis in 2004 due to lower back issues and is happy being a stay at home mom to her three children. They recently opened their Miami home for a brief look at their kitchen during the quarantine. The world was shocked by how clean everything was with five people, three of them being under the age of four, at home all the time.  In conclusion, no celebrity/singer has been more effective at keeping secrets than Enrique Iglesias. His whole career began as a secret from his parents. He has managed to maintain a two-decade relationship with the same person and most of it has been under wraps as well. The one thing he’s not keeping a secret is his sexuality. We now know that Enrique is 100% NOT a gay man. However, it does seem that he will take on a challenge no matter the consequences!  Sources:  https://www.biography.com/musician/enrique-iglesias https://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/pictures/enrique-iglesias-and-anna-kournikovas-relationship-timeline/january-2020-31/ http://archive.indianexpress.com/news/enrique-iglesias-kissed-a-male-fan/474187/
