The electronic dance music DJ with the big white bucket mask over his head with a cartoonish smiley face in black print is known professionally as Marshmello. The mask looks exactly like that, a huge marshmallow. But nothing about this EDM producer and DJ’s career has anything to do with snacks.
Marshmello has everything to do with progressive house and future bass tunes. This electronic musician has bubbled up in the world with booming bevy of hits.
You most likely danced to his blockbusters like: “Keep It Mello” featuring Omar LinX, “Alone,” “Happier” featuring Bastille, “Silence,” “Friends” featuring Anne-Marie,” “Everyday” featuring Logic,” “Wolves” featuring Selina Gomez, “Project Dreams” featuring Roddy Ricch,” “Here with Me” featuring Chvrches,” “Light It Up” featuring Tyga and Chris Brown,” “One Thing Right” featuring Kane Brown,” and “Danger” featuring Migos.
He prefers to keep his identity hidden and let his music be famous instead of himself. This allows him to avoid the hassle of needing an army of bodyguards or getting stopped every 5 seconds by intrusive strangers demanding something from him.
Marshmello’s private lifestyle helps him become wealthy doing what he loves and remain relatively anonymous. We have to put emphasis on the word “relatively” when describing Marshmello’s public invisibility because his identity has allegedly been revealed before.
Who is Marshmello? Let’s take a look at the man behind the massive marshmallow mask and what he has been able to achieve.
The Marshmello Mask Removed
Who is the guy behind the Marshmello mask? Marshmello seems to be a gentleman by the name of Chris Comstock. Could it be that back when another notable EDM producer/DJ known as Skrillex was interviewed by Katie Couric back in 2015, Marshmello called Skrillex. Katie announced, “It’s Chris,” and apparently Skrillex corrected her by saying “Oh, Marshmello.”
Now the word is out. Marshmello and Chris Comstock, who is also known by the stage name Dotcom, are one in the same. Marshmello is registered as a songwriter and musician through music royalty manager BMI. But BMI’s public database pulls up the same results when you search for either Marshmello or Comstock. BMI removed their information that was available for the public.
The proof doesn’t just start and stop with interviews and BMI searches. Twitter users have noticed back in 2016 that Marshmello and Chris Comstock happened to have the exact same leg tattoo back. in 2016. There have also been footage leaks of Marshmello without his helmet on Instagram.
During Valentine’s Day 2020, the masked DJ Marshmello, or should we say Dotcom, or just plain old Chris Comstock, even appeared in a photo on Instagram smiling with his girlfriend Kelsey Calemine. According to the comment section there was quite a bit of shock that they were dating each other. There were no pretentious efforts to pretend that Chris and Marshmello were not the same person. In fact, another major large DJ producer, Diplo, spoke up in the comments to have some fun by saying: “LOL Chris told me he was 100 percent my valentine.”
Marshmello Vs. Dotcom
What is the likelihood that Marshmello will remove his helmet for his audience? Probably not very high. It is so tightly attached to his performance identity that it would probably be like seeing MF Doom rap without his metal mask. He would just appear to be a normal guy who raps extremely well. If Batman fought crime without his mask and cape, he would just be the wealthy guy Bruce Wayne running around taking a lot of risks.
Chris Comstock does show his face when he performs as Dotcom. But he still refuses to openly admit that he is in fact Marshmello, even when his name Chris Comstock is listed as Marshmello’s real name on Wikipedia. Comstock joked about the whole thing on Twitter as Marshmello, tweeting: “My name is Chris…short for Christmas came early.”
Marshmello is definitely not in a hurry to do a lot of interviews either. When Forbes journalists asked Marshmello once if he would ever take off his helmet, he simply responded by giving them two thumbs down. He also stated on Twitter, “I don’t take my helmet off because I don’t want or need fame. I’m genuinely trying to create something positive for people to connect with.” That is a fairly clear finale on any future helmet reveals taking place.
Financial Success
Forbes has stated in the past that Marshmello’s net worth was floating around the “$21 million pre-tax mark back in the 12 months prior to June 2017. He made this massive amount of money with the help of more than 170 performance gigs that grabbed him grosses that exceeded $150,000 per show. Marshmello also showed up in Forbes’ 30 under 30 in 2018 with a net worth of $44 million. That means between those two reports, Marshmello more than doubled his accumulated earnings.
No matter what exact number you attach to Chris Comstock’s tax returns, whether it is $40 million or $44 million, he is clearly one of the wealthiest DJs in the entire world. How does Marshmello stack up financially against other DJs? He isn’t too shabby at all being tied for 16th place on a Celebrity Net Worth list:
- Calvin Harris Net Worth: $240 million
- DJ Tiesto Net Worth: $150 million
- David Guetta Net Worth: $75 million
- Steve Aoki Net Worth: $75 million
- Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo Net Worth: $70 million
- Thomas Bangalter Net Worth: $70 million
- Paul Oakenfold Net Worth: $65 million
- Afrojack Net Worth: $60 million
- Paul van Dyk Net Worth: $60 million
- Armin Van Buuren Net Worth: $55 million
- Deadmau5 Net Worth: $53 million
- Kaskade Net Worth: $50 million
- John Digweed Net Worth: $48 million
- Skrillex Net Worth: $45 million
- Judge Jules Net Worth: $42 million
- Alex Pall Net Worth: $40 million
- Andrew Taggert Net Worth: $40 million
- Marshmello Net Worth: $40 million
To make a long story short, Chris Comstock is a talented and extremely well employed DJ and producer that gets to go to work and collect pay under two names, Marshmello and Dotcom. Don’t we all wish we could get paid twice these days?
