Criminal justice reform has emerged as a major political topic over the last decade as advocates for fairness and equality under the law have worked tirelessly to give this long ignored subject a voice. According to TMZ, Canadian rapper, singer-songwriter and record producer Tory Lanez is joining this fight in part by donating his time and money to help many poor and underprivileged families post bail for their loved ones.
Through the organization Unite the People Inc., a non-profit that operates out of Long Beach, California, Lanez donated $50,000 to help people with their legal fees and bail money. Just as amazing is the fact that he followed up his gift with a surprise, personal appearance at the charity to meet some of the people who will benefit from his donation.
TMZ reported that Lanez has been on the board of Unite the People for two years. After learning what disadvantaged people go through with disproportionate sentencing – especially due to racial and financial inequalities – Tory decided to help.
