Young Thug and Future: Who are they?
Whenever we talk about the hottest out of Atlanta, it’s nearly impossible to not mention two of rap’s most influential artists in the last decade in Young Thug and Future. Jeffery Lamar Williams better known as “Young Thug” and Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn better known as “Future” both have had tremendous careers as individuals and perhaps even better ones when they work side by side.
Both superstars are from Atlanta, one of the most talented cities when it comes to music and artistry, and both came in the game around the same time 2010 and 2011. Since their early introduction to the industry, they have impacted and influenced not only other rappers but the entire rap industry as a whole.
From musical style, delivery, lyrics to the choice of fashion, these two artists have been in their own lanes since the very beginning, and others have struggled to keep up with them. Young Thug or simply Thugger had his major breakthrough in 2014 with two mainstream hit singles “Stoner” and “Danny Glover”. Both managed to become club bangers and “Stoner ” led the way peaking at 47 on Billboard 100 and selling over 500,000 copies earning a certified gold plaque from RIAA.
Future had his breakthrough with the hit single “Turn On The Lights” which was released in 2012 and peaked at number 50 on Billboard 100. The single also sold a whopping 2 million copies going double platinum on RIAA. He also managed to shake the room with “Tony Montana” featuring Toronto’s very own Drake. Both Thugger and Future had absolutely been dominating the industry since their major breakthroughs. Which led to many people wondering will they ever collaborate together?
Super Slimey
In 2016 we started hearing rumors in the industry about a potential collaboration project between the two Atlanta legends. By this point, both artists have been well established in their careers, having multiple platinum and gold records, a number of incredible features, and 100’s of millions of YouTube views. They kept a low profile on this project for the most part wanting to really hit the industry and the fans by surprise. But unfortunately, the industry is not as large as you might think. Word got around quickly and before it really erupted Thug and Future began leaking photos of the two of them in the studio working together. Taking matters into their own hands before someone else does.
In 2017 a day before the entitled project “Super Slimey” was released we got the official album cover. The following day the album had dropped and instantly caused an earthquake in the industry. The long-awaited collaboration had finally arrived, the snake and the vulture have put their chemistry to work and came out with an instant classic. The mixtape debuted at number two on the Billboards 200 list and fluctuated within the top 10 for a number of weeks that followed.
What was once an imagination became a reality, Super Slimey had truly demonstrated what the two artists could achieve when they put their creative minds in one basket. We’ve known them both for having trappy, melodic, auto-tuned, raspy, and mumbly deliveries, which is what made them unique at the time of their industry breakthroughs. Thugger who is notorious for his delivery method had absolutely exploded with his vocals in tracks such as “No Cap”, “Three”, and “Group Home” and Future was nothing short of the same.
Where have they been since Super Slimey?
It’s safe to say these two rap sensations left it all in the studio, heart and soul poured into Super Slimey. Since the release of the mixtape, the two have been busy working on their own solo projects and still providing fans with collaboration singles from time to time. Most notably they gave us “Relationships” single in 2019 which sold over 2 million copies earning double platinum on RIAA.
We’ve also heard them collaborate with Chris Brown on “High End” single featuring both Thugger and Future, yet another gold plaque selling over 500,000 copies. Thugger has released “So Much” the album in 2019 also going platinum and Future has released a number of projects “Hndrxx” and “The Wizrd” which both earned gold plaques.
To be fair, they have been busy and both have been dealing with quite a bit from albums, singles, tours, interviews, and video shoots. However, the fans can’t get enough of the two in action together, so we started digging into the industry to see what they have coming in the near future.
Super Slimey 2
The industry has been craving another classic from the deadly duo, and Thugger knows it. Late in 2019, he decided to leak a snipped on his Instagram story previewing another song with Future, Gunna, and Lil Baby calling it “Super Slimey 2” and telling us “Coming Soon”. What does this tell us? Well, we certainly know Thugger for his tremendous work ethic, hard to point out a rapper who works as hard as Thug. This also might very well tell us that Super Slimey 2 could be more than just a collaboration with Future. Based on the leak it appears that Gunna and Lil Baby will be a part of the project if at least a song or two.
If anyone knows who to stir the pot it would be Thugger. How else could you possibly turn the head up even more than you have already? Just add Gunna and Lil Baby, now the heat is really on. We know both Thugger and Future for their creativity on the mic, it should be no surprise to us that they will get even more creative with this coming project.
Conspiracy Behind Super Slimey 2
Now that we know the project is definitely in the works, other rumors have come to light. Since Thugger and Future are considered the founding fathers of the modern Atlanta sound, Gunna and Lil Baby would be the lead example of the future generation. Two incredible young talents who have adopted the Atlanta wave and made their own twist of it leading to both individual and collective success.
With the leak of Super Slimey 2 letting us know Gunna and Lil Baby will play a role in the project, who’s to say Thugger and Future won’t pass the torch down to the younger stars? In other words, the legendary project might someday be continued by Gunna and Lil Baby giving us a Super Slimey 3 in the later future. And as we know when Gunna and Baby get together they never fail to deliver our most favorite example being “Drip Too Hard” from 2018.
Thugger is an unpredictable person, he has managed to surprise us over and over again. Expect the unexpected when you mention Young Thug and this might very well be one of those out of the red Thugger moments. With Thugger also being more involved in the behind the scenes stuff for Gunna and Lil Baby’s career we know his influence on the two of them is like a father-son relationship. If were lucky enough this conspiracy might come to reality, just as the original Super Slimey did in 2017. Stay on the lookout for more of the four finest out of Atlanta this coming fall.
