If you listen to rap music in 2020, it is pretty hard to admit that you have never heard of Travis Scott. The Texas-raised and Los Angeles-based rap star takes up a lot of space when he enters a room, with a resounding amount of forward momentum in his every move. He is known for raging on stage like a lion let loose, engaging with the audience to trade each other’s enthusiasm to the maximum degree.
But if you have never stood in the same room as Travis Scott, it is understandable that you probably have no idea how tall Travis Scott is. He sure seems to be taller than many of those around him, including the Kardashians and the one and only Kanye West. Before you let your wild imagination run wild, let’s not only define Travis Scott’s actual height, but let us also take a glimpse at a few of the seismic shifts that have occurred in Travis’ career that have made him an even larger figure than any ruler could ever measure him out to be.
Travis In Person
The electric ball of excitement that we recognize as Travis Scott stands at 5’10”, just two inches below 6 feet. Known for his extremely intense live performances, his head full of braided hair, and his rockstar bare chest, the athletic rapper weighs around 148 pounds.
When Travis opens his mouth wide to belt out his boisterous lyrics, it is hard not to notice his gold teeth shining in the limelight. With his body decorated in tattoos and his gothic fashion sense, Travis is unpredictable enough to keep you guessing.
Being a little taller than the average man at 5’10” has its fringe benefits when you are a global rap phenomenon at the magnitude of Travis Scott. The young billionaire Kylie Jenner isn’t the first famous face that Travis has had his arms around:
- Chantel Jeffries (2015) – Travis Scott had a really brief time dating model Chantel Jeffries during the year of 2015. He originally cast Chantel in his music video for “90201” and this put the two of them in close enough proximity to go a step beyond just co-workers. Chantel Jeffries was seen in pictures at most of his live performances in September 2015, proving that the music video wasn’t a one and done meeting between the two.
- Rihanna (2015-2016) – Sometimes after things drifted apart between Travis Scott and Chantel Jeffries, things got red hot with superstar singer Rihanna, and sometimes ice cold as well. In fact, the gossip mill started spinning stories about Travis and Rihanna in the same month of September 2015 when Chantel Jeffries was attending those Travis Scott shows. Travis and Riri were seen together at various events such as Roc Nation’s block party and a private party at Up & Down. After that, they left the Gramercy Theatre together after he had performed at the venue. It was said that Rihanna had been in attendance for three nights in a row. A month later In October 2015, the two were caught face to face making out in a Paris nightclub in Paris during fashion week. But things cooled down quite a bit in the spring of 2016 when Rihanna allegedly started an affair with Canadian rap giant Drake.
- Karrueche Tran (2016) – Travis Scott was rumored to have had a love moment with the model and actress Karrueche Tran when the two young head-turners attracted the attention of the media when they were pictured nice and close together at New York Fashion Week. They were by each other’s side for two fashion shows and were seen kissing and hugging in the VIP area after the Vera Wang fashion show that occurred on September 12, 2016.
Family and Music Don’t Always Mix
Travis Scott’s father may have also been a musician; he was apparently not in a good mood when it became clear that his son was pursuing a career in the music industry. Things got so bad that father and son even came to blows, getting into fistfights in front of Scott’s friends.
His parents pulled the plug on young Travis financially when they found out that he had dropped out of college at the University of Texas and was repurposing his college money to pay for his music career. Travis Scott felt that being in college wasn’t propelling him in the direction of success that he desired, so after leaving college, it was off to New York City to fulfill his dreams of rocking stages, just like his musical inspiration Kid Cudi did years prior when he left Cleveland, Ohio to make it in NYC.
Just like how Kanye West was the man who signed Kid Cudi to a record deal and stretched his career to a longer length of exposure, Kanye is also who began Travis Scott’s career, signing him to his GOOD Music label, changing Scott’s life forever. If things have been estranged with Travis’ immediate family, the rapper protégé of Ye found a relationship beyond friendship with his label leader, to the point of even referring to Kanye as his stepdad.
Travis became a part of the ambitious live events put on by the video game juggernaut known as Fortnite. EDM music master Marshmello has already had a dynamic concert with the unique digital arena. Travis Scott’s Fortnite has seemingly upped the ante.
Days prior to Travis’ online show, Fortnite players were able to witness a stage being constructed at the Sweaty Sands beach area and saw it gradually getter bigger and bigger. On top of the water a black stage was erected, and multiple gold and inflatable Travis Scott heads appeared on it as well.
Once the show began, Fortnite players were able to view an object that resembled a planet floating towards them on a circle-shaped screen. Once it got much closer to viewers, there was an explosion, and this marked that it was showtime. i
The whole Fortnite island was the stage, featuring a giant Travis Scott stomping around the island like Godzilla during the opening song. Music would change. Visuals would change. Scott even transformed into a cyborg at one point.
When the song “Highest in the Room” started, the crowd was dropped and taken underwater, right along with a huge spaceman. Rollercoasters and trippy effects kept the concert on a whole other level, as did the fact that players were flying around the planet.
For those expecting a full-length concert on the level of what Travis Scott gives audiences in real life, they may have been surprised when it only lasted about 15 minutes, but the feeling of co-existing in a virtual science fiction movie with your favorite rapper made it all worth it.
In comparison to the Marshmello experience, which was one show, the Travis Scott and Fortnite collaboration was much more than one-off shows like the other previous performers before him, Scott offered a tour instead to be spread across five different events.
When your career grows to the massive size of Travis Scott’s, it makes his height of 5’10” feel more like 10’5” – standing a head above the rest.
